Railway photographer Adrian Vaughan has put together this collection of his own photographs and those of three like-minded predecessors depicting railway scenes in and around Oxford. The oldest photos are those by Bill Kenning, dating from the Edwardian period and the early 1920s. These are followed by material from Dr Jack Hollick from the early 1930s, whilst the photos by Peter Barlow are mostly undated but appear to be post-war. The author’s own images date from between the 1960s and the present day.
Several of the photographs were taken at or near the main Oxford station, and the long gone Oxford Rewley Road station on the former Varsity Line to Cambridge via Bletchley is also featured. Other locations illustrated include Hinksey South, Kennington, Wolvercot and Yarnton.
There is a good mix of steam and diesel hauled passenger and freight trains, DMUs, light running locos, and signal box interiors and exteriors. The photos are mostly arranged one or two per page. Approximately 200 black & white photographs. 104 pages.
