Rails around Ireland: A Journey in Pictures (Transport Treasury Publishing)

£13.50
Back Order

An album of black & white images from the Transport Treasury archive, illustrating railways in Ireland between 1914 and 1966, with the majority of photographs coming from the 1950s when the railways in Ireland were undergoing massive change.

Photographs are presented roughly as a journey around the island of Ireland from Dun Laoghaire, down to Cork and back up via the north of Ireland to Larne. Over 80 photographs are included, mostly in full-page format with an informative caption accompanying each.

Ireland's main line railways are covered, as are most of the railway companies operating during the 1950s, including five of Ireland's narrow gauge railways which have since closed.

Rails around Ireland: A Journey in Pictures presents a fascinating series of black & white images of railways in Ireland over a 50 year period where steam was still the predominant type of motive power in use in Ireland. Hardback. 80 pages.
