This “bookazine” type publication takes a look at the Dampfbahn Furka-Bergstrecke heritage railway across the Furka Pass in Switzerland. This was the original route of the famous “Glacier Express” until the Furka Base Tunnel opened in 1982, since when this service has been able to operate all year round.

The book tells the story of the construction, opening, closure and gradual revival of the route in stages between 1992 and 2010, and then describes the route section by section and looks at its operations at the time of publication, including the snow clearance work carried out before the start of each operating season and the dismantling of the Steffenbach viaduct each autumn after the start of the winter closure period. At the back there are descriptions of each loco and coach in the railway’s rolling stock fleet.
