An illustrated review of the Type M3 coaching stock built for Belgium’s railways in the 1960s and mainly withdrawn in the early 1990s. Beginning with a brief description of two forerunners, the Type M2 and K3 coaches, it then looks at the design of the M3 carriages, modifications made to them throughout their use and at how they were used over the years. Well illustrated, it shows the M3 coaches in service or stabled in sidings, the M3 vehicles under construction; interior views and internal layout diagrams. Whilst many photographs show diesel-hauled trains, generally Classes 59, 60, 61, 62 and 63, there are some showing them being hauled by steam locomotives. Also included are pictures showing the coaches in service with Ferrovie Nord Milano in Italy after withdrawal by SNCB. These are followed by the two Type M3 farewell railtours and the two surviving examples in Belgium, one of which is privately owned as part of a country residence and the other having been preserved by the now defunct Kolenspoor heritage railway. Colour and black & white photographs and diagrams. French text. 66 pages.
