An illustrated review of the rail scene in north-western England, focusing mainly on the years 1975 to 1985. The book concentrates mainly on the locomotive classes that could be found in the area at the time, with a few multiple unit classes also included.

A variety of different services are illustrated, both passenger and freight, as well as depot and works scenes. Major railway centres, such as Carlisle, Preston and Manchester, feature heavily, but branch lines and out of the way vantage points have not been neglected.

Most of the 180 images in North West Railways in the 1970s and 1980s are in black & white, with some colour material. Mostly presented in two-per-page format. 96 pages.
