In this book, author Mike Wedgewood presents a series of high-quality colour photographs of diesel locomotives and multiple units operating on three lines north of Perth in the Scottish Highlands.
An introduction to diesels in the Scottish Highlands is followed by three chapters, each covering a line:
- Highland Main Line
- Inverness and the Kyle of Lochalsh Line
- The Far North line from Dingwall to Wick and Thurso
Each chapter contains a short introduction to the line, followed by a series of photographs of trains working on the line between the 1980s and the present day. Photographs feature locomotives working on regular passenger trains as well as freight and railtours, as well as multiple units which have been the regular vehicles working on the lines since the 1990s.
