In 2011 Devon County Council set out plans for a rapid transit style rail network known as the Devon Metro which would be achieved through improvements to services and facilities across the county including a number of new stations and reopened lines.
This book looks at how the Metro plans have developed on each route since 2011. It is divided into chapters on each the lines involved: the Great Western Main Line, the Riviera Line serving Torquay and Paignton, the West of England Main Line from Exeter towards Salisbury, and the county’s remaining branch lines.
Most of the photographs are of trains, with almost every type of train to be seen in the county since 2011 being illustrated. Some freight trains and steam and diesel hauled charters are featured as well as regular service trains. There are also photographs of station buildings and railway infrastructure, including two photos of the damage to the sea wall at Dawlish in February 2014. At the end there is a one-page chapter looking at what might realistically be achieved in the next decade.
Illustrated throughout with colour photographs. 96 pages.
