An illustrated review of the Somerset & Dorset Railway; one of the most famous closed railway lines in England. The line carried a wide variety of traffic over the years, from regular local stopping trains through to express passenger trains running to and from the south coast.
This book contains a selection of nearly 600 black & white photographs taken along the line between the late 19th century and the closure of the line in 1966. As well as photographs, the book contains line diagrams of every station, yard and junction along the line.
Photographs are arranged by location as a journey along the line from Bath Green Park to Bournemouth. The branch lines to Burnham-on-Sea, Bridgwater and from Glastonbury to Wells are also covered in similar detail.
Maps of many locations are also included and photographs are each accompanied by captions, many including plenty of information about the location and train illustrated. Hardback. 336 pages.
