This book follows author Keith Widdowson's journey around the Western Region from 1964 onwards, when he learned that the Western Region was set to be the first BR region to eliminate steam haulage. The 17 year old spent the following months chasing trains still in the hands of steam motive power.

In the book, he recalls his journeys throughout BR's Western Region, Wales and the Welsh Marches and pays tribute to the railway workers who kept trains running despite poor maintenance and low quality coal to power the locomotives.

It is well-illustrated throughout with the author's photographs and also includes images of tickets, leaflets and other archive material. 242 pages.
