Scotland's Turntable Ferries (Lily)

1 In Stock

An illustrated history of the manually operated turntable ferries that carried cars and foot passengers across Scotland’s rivers and lochs between the mainland and the islands for most of the 20th century. This ingenious local invention enabled vehicles to load and unload at any state of tide and saved motorists having to reverse but increasingly gave way to larger vessels, bypass roads and bridges from the 1960s onwards. Includes a full fleet list.

Over 100 photos, mostly colour. 104 pages.
