This book tells the story of each of the small independent bus companies that operated rural routes to and from York between the 1950s and the 1970s and that were based in locations west of York.
The book is divided into chapters on each of the five operators: Hopes Motor Services, Hutchinson Brothers, Reliance Motor Service, G E Sykes & Son, and A S Burley (which traded as Majestic of Cawood). There is a short history of each operator and a description and map of the routes operated and the company’s bus fleet. There is a good mixture of colour and black & white photos of buses from all over the area covered, also including a few from the operators’ early days in the 1920s and 1930s.
Contains around 200 colour photos. 96 pages. Softback.
