A pictorial survey of buses on tendered routes in London and the variety of liveries of tendered operators between the start of tendering in the mid-1980s and the late 1990s, after which the newly formed Transport for London decreed that all regular service buses operating within the Greater London boundaries must carry the time-honoured red livery (apart from non-TfL services operating into the outer fringes of Greater London).
The book is divided into chapters covering central, North-East, North-West, South-East and South-West London. A variety of operators, liveries and vehicle types are illustrated, including some ex-London Transport buses such as Leyland Fleetlines and Routemasters and some vehicles hired from operators in other parts of the UK (and still bearing their owners’ own liveries) such as West Midlands Travel and South Yorkshire’s Transport.
