West German Steam in Colour 1955-1975

Back Order

An album of colour photographs of steam locomotives at work on the Deutsche Bundesbahn network in the last two decades of regular steam operation, between 1955 and 1975. Most of the photographs are taken from the Online Transport Archive, along with a few from the collection of the author Andrew Fox, and cover a wide variety of locomotive types from around West Germany. Subjects covered include the Bundesland (federal state) with photographs from Hamburg, Hessen and Rheinland-Pfalz; the Länderbahn, Einheit and Neubau (new build) classes of locomotive, followed by standard gauge, narrow gauge and mixed gauge private railways. Narrow gauge railways featured include the long-gone Federseebahn, the now preserved Öchsle Bahn and the Zabergäubahn, which was closed, rebuilt to standard gauge and then reopened. A chapter concentrates solely on Nordrhein-Westfalen and Saarland. Captions accompany each photograph and text gives some further detail about the locomotives featured. Hardback. 160 pages.
