By Martin Fisher. An illustrated historical survey of the electric locomotives used by independent and privately-owned railways in Switzerland. Features 30 independent railways that operate trains over their own infrastructure, 11 modern-day open access operators and five locomotive leasing companies.

The book charts the evolution of Swiss electric locomotive design from the earliest experimental designs through to the powerful modern locomotives in use today. Looking at each independent operator in turn, the book contains a brief history of each company and describes the services that they operate.

This is followed by photographs and descriptions of every locomotive type used by that railway, with details of the period in which each type was introduced and the technical innovations or service benefits that came with their introduction.

Also contains a tabulated summary for each railway, listing all electric locomotive classes used, with details of:

  • Type
  • Fleet Numbers
  • Builder
  • Year Built
  • Total Weight
  • Length over Buffers
  • Power at Rail
  • Maximum Speed

The vast majority of the book’s, 400 photographs are in colour, but some older images (often rare material) are in black and white. 176 pages. A4 size.
