By Jeremy Clements, Michael McMahon & Alan O'Rourke.

The Great Southern & Western Railway began operations in 1845 and by the time it was absorbed into the Great Southern Railway in 1924, it had grown to become Ireland's largest independent railway company, with over 1,150 miles of routes.

At the point where it was absorbed into the GSR, the company had a fleet of 325 locomotives, which is comprehensively documented in this book for the first time.

The book catalogues every locomotive operated by the Great Southern & Western Railway and provides technical details, diagrams, drawings and photographs of each locomotive type, as well as information about each individual locomotive. Locomotives built for the GS&WR are included, as well as locomotives previously owned by companies taken over by GS&WR between 1866 and 1901.

An introduction to and history of the Great Southern & Western Railway and its locomotives are also included and each photograph includes a detailed caption. Hardback. 284 pages.
