EJ Extra 1/2021: Arlbergbahn: Von Tirol nach Vorarlberg

Back Order

An illustrated review of the Arlberg line, the only east-west main line through the Austrian Alps which connects Innsbruck with Bludenz in Vorarlberg, through spectacular alpine scenery and the Arlberg Tunnel.

The review includes a good history of the 136 km line, construction of which began over 140 years ago. The route was originally single-track, but is now partly double-tracked in many places to accommodate the great variety of traffic that now uses this key artery. National and international long-distance trains, as well as the increasing freight traffic, ensure a huge variety on the Arlberg Railway.

The book is divided into several chapters, each looking at a specific aspect of the line:

  • History of the Line: Construction and first decades
  • The Arlbergbahn in DRG days (including rare pictures from RBD Augsburg)
  • A journey along the route from Bludenz to Innsbruck
  • Classics Trains: From Transalpin to Railjet
  • Coping with the Alpine climate
  • Wooden trains on the Arlberg
  • Winter sports trains
  • The Alpine Railway in miniature: the Arlberg Railway in model form

EJ Extra 1/2021: Arlbergbahn – Von Tirol nach Vorarlberg is well illustrated throughout with historical black-and-white photographs and fascinating colour photographs from the last 30 years. 114 pages. German text.
