Mit Volldampf durchs Muldental (Sutton Zeitreise)

Long-established railway photographer Ingo Thiele has put together this collection of steam photos from the now closed Muldentalbahn between Glauchau and Grossbothen in Sachsen.

The line closed in stages between the mid-1990s and 2002 when the last remaining section was damaged by that year’s floods in eastern Germany.

The book is divided into chapters on each section of the route, each of which starts with a brief description of that section. Most of the photos are from the DDR era in the 1980s with a few archive 1960s black & white photos also included. There is a good mixture of passenger and freight trains and locos on shed, including some from the steam farewell events on the route in 1988. There are also a few present day photos showing what is left of the line, including some of the “Schienentrabi” offering rides on a short section of the line.

Over 200 photos, mostly colour. 120 pages. German text. Hardback.
