Long-established railway photographer Ingo Thiele has put together this collection of steam photos from across the north-eastern part of Nordrhein-Westfalen from between the 1960s and the present day, mostly taken by the author and a few by other photographers.
The 1960s black & white photos are mostly of freight trains and locos on shed in and around Löhne and Minden, and the more recent colour photos are of passenger and freight steam specials. With the ban on main line steam operation in the then West Germany from 1977 until the mid-1980s many of the photos from this period are from privately operated lines such as the Teutoburger Wald Eisenbahn and the Westfälische Landeseisenbahn between Münster and the Warstein.
