An album of high quality photographs of Germany’s railways, taken by British and American enthusiasts in the 1950s and 1960s. How did foreign photographers actually see the railways of Germany? For the most part their motives were the same as those of German railway enthusiasts; they photographed out of passion, mainly (but not only) for the steam locomotives that were threatened with extinction.

Many British and American enthusiasts stationed in Germany were driven by the aspiration to record trains that were on the verge of disappearing forever. Later, they returned home with fabulous images and some fantastic memories of "Good old Germany" in the 1950s and 1960s.

Eine Eisenbahnreise durch Good old Germany contains some of the best of these images, sourced either directly from the photographer or from photographic collections. The majority of images are reproduced in black & white, the most common medium at that time, but there are also 16 pages of colour illustrations. Most photographs are presented in one-per-page format and each photograph is accompanined by a detailed caption. 144 pages. German text. Hardback.
