Back Order

This DVD contains historical and recent footage of the railway and tramway networks in and around the German city of Gera. It looks at the development and expansion of main line rail connections as well as local services and the tram system.

With almost 100,000 inhabitants, Gera is the third largest city in Thuringia. Located in the eastern part of the region, Gera has had a rail connection since 1859 and today its main station sits at the junction of four major railway routes. The city’s interesting railway history is equally matched by that of its 18.5 km metre-gauge tramway network.

Verkehrsknoten Gera DVD contains historical recordings from both the pre-war and the GDR eras. It includes rare views of early types of rolling stock in daily use, as well as imposing railway architecture and street scenes from long ago. The post-reunification era with its modernisation of trains, trams and infrastructure is no less interesting.

Although Gera is a comparatively small city, it has seen plenty to interest the railway enthusiast over the years, as Verkehrsknoten Gera DVD proves. German commentary. 58 minutes running time.
