Since its introduction in 2010 the Vectron locomotive has become a bestseller, with over 1000 locomotives having been ordered by spring 2018. Siemens designed the locomotive for the European market, with the flexibility to adapt to different traction requirements, along with numerous electrical equipment variants. It is generally available in four versions, including alternating current voltage system (AC), direct current voltage system (DC), multivoltage system (MS) and diesel-electric (DE). The Vectron represents innovation and a combination of proven technologies from Siemens’ previous locomotive platforms, Eurosprinter and Eurorunner; footage shows the development from "Eurosprinter" to "Vectron". Vectron locomotives are now approved to operate in 17 European countries plus Turkey. In this DVD we see its operation in Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Czech Republic and other countries. The new electric and diesel-electric Vectron locomotives of Deutsche Bahn in Germany are shown in detail and the "Smartron", the low-cost standard variant for freight transport in Germany, is also featured.
