Die Baureihe V90 DVD (8485)

Back Order

The V 90 is a class of heavy diesel shunting locomotives built for German railways between 1964 and 1974. Around 450 examples were built in three different variants by several well-known locomotive builders in Germany. Under the DB computerised numbering scheme, these locomotives became Classes 290 and 291 in 1968.

The locomotives have had a long and successful service life, with many examples still active, both with DB and private operators in 2020. However, many locomotives have been rebuilt several times, re-engined and many equipped with radio control. DB now has Classes 290, 291, 294, 295 and 296 in its inventory.

Die Baureihe V 90: Schwere Rangierdiesellok DVD contains film of Class V 90 locomotives throughout their working lives, including footage from various film archives. Today’s operations are well documented with sequences recorded at the lineside and from the cab.

The differences between the different series are explained in the film. The DVD also looks at those locomotives that have found new homes with private railway companies or within private industry. Finally, the DVD looks at locomotives that have entered preservation and examples that have been restored to heritage liveries. 58 minutes running time. German commentary.
