Traction Times: A Second Selection: Early BR Traction Miscellany

£14.50
Back Order

A second volume of black & white images from the Transport Treasury archive, illustrating diesel and electric traction in the early years of British Railways. Author and former professional railwayman, Andrew Royle, takes another clinical look at some of these early types, discussing their lives, strengths and in many cases weaknesses.

The period covered reaches as far back as 1949 and extends to the early years of the BR blue period which began around 1965. Although mainly concerned with main line diesel locomotives, this volume also features shunters, electric locomotives, and contains an additional chapter looking at depots and works facilities.

The photographs in Traction Times: A Second Selection are presented in one or two-per-page format and all are accompanied by detailed captions. The book is divided into sections looking at the following in turn:

  • Diesel Multiple Units
  • Type 1 Diesels
  • Type 2 Diesels
  • Type 3 Diesels
  • Type 4 Diesels
  • Type 5 Diesels & Prototypes
  • Diesel Shunters
  • Electric Multiple Units
  • Electric Locos
  • Depots and Servicing

Traction Times: A Second Selection contains many rare photographs and illustrates a variety of traction types, some highly successful and others considerably less so. 96 pages.
