The headlong rush to modernise Britain’s railways following the 1955 Modernisation Plan, resulted in a plethora of different diesel designs, built by various manufacturers. Some of these stood the test of time well, while others were inherently unreliable and caused endless headaches both for maintenance staff and the operators alike. Using the best available archive images this album looks back at the bewildering assortment of diesel locomotives and units that could be found on the London Midland Region. A wide variety of locomotive and multiple unit types are photographed at locations from all around the London Midland Region.
