Author Colin Alexander has written this timely history of the Tyne & Wear Metro system to mark the 40th anniversary of the opening of the first section of the network.
The book explores the decline of the BR suburban lines which were to be replaced by the metro system, before going on to look at how the metro system came into existence. Also looks at the expansion of the system since over the last 40 years as well as the rolling stock and how the metro integrates into the public transport system of Tyneside.
