This book is an illustrated class by class survey of the more than 6000 steam locomotives that were inherited by the London Midland Region of British Railways at nationalisation of the railways in 1948.

The Final Years of London Midland Region Steam: A Pictorial Tribute begins with an account of the nationalisation process and describes how the locomotive fleet was allocated between the new Regions. There then follows a series of chapters, each covering a different power classification and reviewing the locomotives that fell within that classification.

The book covers all the top link and freight classes, as well as the smaller types of locomotive, operating on branch lines and performing more humble tasks. Author, David Mather, also looks at what became of many of the featured locomotives, including several that have survived into preservation. An appendix lists where fomer LMR steam locomotives have been preserved in the UK.

The Final Years of London Midland Region Steam: A Pictorial Tribute contains over 200 illustrations, a good proportion of which are in colour. All photographs are accompanied by detailed captions, many with anecdotal information about the subject. 240 pages. Hardback
