This 2021 published volume covers the Gresley B17 4-6-0 locomotives built between 1928 and 1937 and also known as the “Sandringham” or “Footballer” class with several members of the class being named after football clubs.
73 locomotives were built, across three different builders between 1928 and 1937 for operating passenger trains on lines out of London towards Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. The class was gradually withdrawn throughout the 1950s and early 1960s.
This book contains an introduction to the locomotives, before going on to look at each individual locomotive in turn. Entries for each locomotive include details of when and where built, major repairs, boiler exchanges, recorded mileage and depot allocation history.
