Steam Across the Regions (Pen & Sword)

Back Order

A pictorial rail journey through Britain.

An album of high quality black & white photographs of steam locos across the British Rail network in the 1960s, in the last few years of main line standard gauge steam. The book is divided into chapters covering each of the six regions then in existence on BR: the Scottish, North Eastern, Eastern, London Midland, Western and Southern Regions. In the Scottish chapter there are only four photos, and each of the other chapters contains a few photos from various locations that the author visited. There is a good mixture of passenger and freight locos and light engines, plus a few photos of stations without trains and even one of a DMU and a diesel-hauled train included for good measure. Notable locations featured include Carlisle, Shap summit, the North Wales Coast, Reading General, the Isle of Wight, and the London termini of King’s Cross, Paddington, Victoria and Waterloo.

Approximately 200 black & white photos. 128 pages. Hardback.
