The development and construction of Britain's railways were always documented using technical drawings and diagrams and around a million of these drawings have survived and are held in the National Railway Museum in York.

In this book, Christopher Valkoinen selects over 130 examples of drawings that tell the engineering history of Britain's railways and of the locomotives which have operated on them over the years. For each of the drawings featured within this book, a colour reproduction is provided, along with some text providing background information on the subject. In many cases a photograph is also included.

The book is divided into chapters covering:

  • Locomotives
  • Rolling Stock
  • Freight Transport
  • Railway Workers
  • The Railway Workshop of the World
  • Railways in Wartime
  • Railway Infrastructure

Railways: A History in Drawings presents a selection of drawings of railway infrastructure and locomotives from throughout railway history. Large format hardback. 306 pages.
