Nottingham to Mansfield: The Midland & Great Northern Railway Routes to Today (Middleton)

Back Order

By Vic Mitchell and Keith Smith. An historical review of the Midland & Great Northern route between Nottingham and Mansfield presented in the form of a journey along the line through a combination of archive and more recent black & white photographs.

Like many other lines in the East Midlands, the M&GN route suffered decline and closure in the 1960s in the face of declining traffic levels. Unusually however, the recent history of the line is far more positive, as increased development along the route has led to the reconstruction of the line as a main line railway again linking Nottingham with Mansfield. Furthermore, part of the alignment within Nottingham has been adopted by the Nottingham Express Transit light rail system.

Nottingham to Mansfield: The Midland & Great Northern Railway Routes to Today traces the line, illustrating every station and many other items of railway interest along the way. It features many examples of passenger services and freight traffic on the route. The use of photographs taken at different points in history allows the reader to see at a glance how each location has changed over the years.

Over 100 photographic illustrations are accompanied by Informative captions to give further details about the history of the line. Several maps, track plans, ticket examples and other period reproductions are also included. 96 pages. Hardback.

This book is the last to be penned by Vic Mitchell, prolific railway author and founder of Middleton Press, who sadly died in January 2021.
