West Wales Railways: Llanelly West to Carmarthen (Pen & Sword)

Back Order

By John Hodge. Llanelly West to Carmarthen is a pictorial survey of the 20 miles of railway line between the junction station at LLanelli and the county town of Carmarthen in West Wales. It uses a combination of archive black & white photographs and more recent colour images to trace the route of the line and illustrate notable features along the way.

The book covers every station and main location along the route, with good photographic coverage and interesting long captions explaining the locations' significance. Additional text is provided for several locations, giving more historical detail and anecdotal information:

  • Llanelly West/Old Castle Crossing
  • Pembrey & Burry Port
  • Carmarthen Bay Power Station
  • Lando Halt
  • Kidwelly Flats Halt
  • Kidwelly
  • Ferryside
  • Carmarthen
  • Carmarthen Junction
  • Carmarthen New Station
  • Carmarthen Junction Shed
  • Carmarthen Shed

As well as recording passenger traffic, Llanelly West to Carmarthen also takes in some of the history of local industry that was once a prominent feature in this area. Author, John Hodge, is a retired railwayman and life-long railway enthusiast and historian, with many published railway histories to his name.

The work will be of particular interest to railway historians and to those who accurately model railways, having a good coverage of the subject throughout its pages. 192 pages. Hardback.

Special Note:Because of the fact that many of the pictures and references in the book predate the official change in spelling in 1966 from Llanelly to Llanelli, it has been decided to use the former spelling in the book title.
