An historical review of the lines connecting the Suffolk town of Newmarket with Ely, Cambridge and Mildenhall. Also covered is the route from Cambridge to Fordham via Barnwell and Burwell.

Today, the lines to Cambridge and Ely remain open with the Cambridge route being a well-used passenger line and the route towards Ely forming part of an important freight route to and from the port of Felixstowe. Passenger services on the Cambridge to Mildenhall line ceased in 1962 and the line closed in 1965.
