Gresley's B17s (Great Northern Books)

£22.50
Back Order

A superb album of mostly black & white photos of Sir Nigel Gresley’s B17 4-6-0 locos built between 1928 and 1937 and also known as the “Sandringham” or “Footballer” class with several members of the class being named after football clubs.

Most members of the class are featured in this book at least once. The photos include a good mixture of locos on shed and hauling passenger and freight trains and are from all over the former LNER network, mostly dating from between their early days in the late 1920s and the late 1950s. They are arranged in roughly numerical order, starting with the locos in their original LNER guise numbered in the 28xx series, followed by their second LNER number in the 16xx series and, lastly, the same 16xx number but prefixed with a 6 following nationalisation.

Notable trains featured include the Royal Train, King’s Cross–Cambridge expresses, the Liverpool Street–Norwich “East Anglian” calling only at Ipswich en route, and Harwich boat trains to and from London and Manchester.

Hardback. 144 pages. Approximately 200 photos, mostly black & white.
