The third volume in this detailed series looking at British Railways during its first 25 years, from 1948 through to the years following the end of steam. Subtitled, Lancashire and Westmorland, this volume covers former L&NWR, L&YR and Furness Railway lines from a point just north of Crewe to Penrith, also including areas in the traditional county of Lancashire such as Liverpool and Wigan. The book is divided into chapters, each covering a different section of line. Each chapter contains a short description of events in the area during the first 25 years of BR, followed by a selection of black & white photographs, each accompanied by very detailed captions.
