A superb album of Gresley A1 and A3 Pacifics from their early days in the 1920s until withdrawal in the 1960s, mostly on the East Coast and Great Central Main Lines. The “Waverley” and “Thames-Clyde Express” between St Pancras and Edinburgh/Glasgow via the Settle & Carlisle route are also featured along with “Pacifics” north of Edinburgh, and there is one photo of 4474 on a Great Western express as part of the 1925 exchange trials between the GWR and the LNER.
Most of the photos have detailed captions. The last photo shows 60103 FLYING SCOTSMAN arriving at King’s Cross on its last run for BR in 1963. Apart from the “Flying Scotsman”, other notable trains depicted include the “Yorkshire Pullman”, the “Queen of Scots” and Edinburgh–Aberdeen and Manchester–London Marylebone expresses.
Over 140 black & white photos. 144 pages. Hardback.
